3 Biking Trends That You Need To Be Aware Of

Trend #1 – E-bikes

So far in 2019, the biggest trend in the bike market is the development of e-bikes. With the most recently developed e-bikes you can barely tell the difference between them and ordinary bikes, thanks to the new aero frames in which the battery fits into. These bikes are popular because they simply make cycling easier as the bike’s battery and motor provide assistance when pedalling, so riders don’t need to put as much effort in as they cycle.

This is a trend that is only going to get bigger due to these designs getting lighter, more capable, and available in more locations. In the next year, 14% of UK cyclists will buy an e-bike, with over 45% of current cyclists saying they would be interested in test riding one.

Trend #2 – Gravel

You probably haven’t failed to notice the rising popularity of gravel riding. It’s a trend that started in America with cyclists riding on gravel tracks for a different sense of adventure; it has now grown globally with dedicated gravel bikes and wheelsets. It’s still something quite new in the UK, but that doesn’t stop people from being imaginative with hard to come by gravel tracks.  The bike is a mix between a mountain and road bike, which are perfectly suited to lighter off-road duties and general mixed terrain routes.

It won’t be long before you start to notice more and more gravel riding events and competitions, as well as more brands starting to manufacture gravel bikes and gear. The biggest advantage of riding a gravel bike is the sheer variety of riding it opens up to you. Road sections are considerably easier on these bikes than your ordinary mountain bikes, but when you do hit the dirt or gravel tracks a gravel bike is more than capable.

Trend #3 – Aero Helmets

Aerodynamic helmets aren’t a new concept, but the idea of more people wanting them and wearing them every day is. Aerodynamic accessories are becoming better, cheaper and easier to get hold of, most notably helmets. Professional cycling teams are increasingly working alongside helmet sponsors to create the very best helmets. The option to be more aerodynamic on your everyday rides is an exciting thought.
